Economics Unit

The Economics Unit is committed to equipping students with the tools for theoretical and applied analyses in Economics.  The Unit offers economics courses for students in the BA with Education degree programme.

At the undergraduate level, we offer a standard sequence of introductory courses as well as a wide range of upper-level courses to prepare students for positions in the private sector, government, or postgraduate studies.

Common career paths for economic graduates include working as an economist, financial risk analyst, data analyst, financial planner, accountant, economic researcher, financial consultant, investment analyst, public sector roles, secondary school teacher.

Assistant Lecturer in Economics


Mr. Gilbert Mwabeza is a dedicated academic serving as an Assistant Lecturer within the Economics Department at Marian University College (MARUCo). With an unwavering commitment to the field, he contributes significantly to the academic community. His scholarly journey reflects his pursuit of excellence in economics education.

Educational Background:

Mr. Gilbert Mwabeza completed his academic achievements with distinction. He earned a Master's Degree of Art in Economics from St. Augustine University of Tanzania between the years 2017 and 2019. Prior to this, he acquired a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts with Education from the same institution, during the period of 2013 to 2016. His academic prowess is further augmented by his specialization in Applied Economics.

Teaching and Research:

A proficient educator, Mr. Gilbert Mwabeza imparts his knowledge through his role as an Assistant Lecturer, teaching courses that include Introduction to Microeconomics, Introduction to Macroeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Money, Banking and Financial Development, and Economic Planning, Policy and Programming, and Public Finance. His research pursuits are rooted in a deep interest in Public Finance.

Consultancy and Publications:

Mr. Gilbert Mwabeza's expertise extends to consultancy work, particularly in areas such as Project Design, Fundraising, and Research Proposal Writing. His scholarly contributions are manifest through his publication "Determinants of Tax Revenue in Tanzania," underscoring his commitment to rigorous research and knowledge dissemination.
